Background
Karine is a mindfulness and meditation teacher, interested in contemplative studies research, and the generation of an integrated mind-body wisdom through mindfulness practices. She was born and raised in the United States, but has spent many years traveling and living outside the U.S. Her undergraduate degree was a traveling experience that immersed her in the daily life experiences of the cultures she visited. She received her Master’s degree in Social/Cultural Anthropology from University College London, England, where she studied the impact of lived contemplative practices in the transformation of experience. As a teacher of mindfulness, she is deeply appreciative of the opportunity to help others cultivate a more harmonious relationship to themselves and others.
Mindfulness training
As a researcher in contemplative studies (MSc), and an ethnologist, she worked for several years to help understand the experiences of, and integrate, marginalized populations through meaningful employment and social engagement. She has long been interested in the disparity between the experience of unhappiness and dissatisfaction in people and the transformation of that suffering as an experience. In 2015, she completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) professional training through the European Center for Mindfulness in Freiburg, Germany, which is directly affiliated with Jon Kabat-Zinn and the Center for Mindfulness in Massachusetts, USA.
Meditation experience
Karine has had an interest in contemplative practices since childhood, but was formally introduced to meditation in her early 20’s on a trip to Dharamsala, India, in 1999. It was there that, through the guidance and instruction of supportive teachers, she first learned to tap into this inner resource and become more intimate with her own experience; enabling a greater understanding of the human experience. She is dedicated to this as a lifelong, daily, practice that is the thread that runs through all that she does and wishes to do. Her personal practice and the transformation it has made possible informs her work as a mindfulness teacher.
